Education provides students with the tools to make a difference in their community, but what students do with those tools is ultimately up to them. A solid grounding in any subject area is not enough by itself; students must have the desire and initiative to apply their learning toward their ambitions. Upon completing my academic career in undergraduate and likely graduate studies, I hope to pursue a career path that suits my interests, a profession in which I can put forth my best effort every day and make a ripple in the waters of society.

As it stands now, I plan to enter the field of electrical engineering, where I can apply my interest in the sciences toward the technological industry. After earning a master’s degree, I hope to find a job working for a company that is a pioneer in its field, a company such as Google or Intel. Depending on whether I decide to focus on hardware or software-related components in college, the company I join and the work I do may differ. Wherever I end up going, however, I hope to play a role in the development of new, cutting-edge technology. Working as part of a team, I want to contribute my efforts toward innovative advances that will further connect people from different parts of the world. In particular, I hope to play a part in the current technological revolution that is changing the way people view computers.

My career goals may not have a direct impact on my immediate community, but the accomplishments I hope to make in my future profession may help usher in a new information era. Whether I will be working on building ever more efficient processors or writing inventive new programs, I will be serving society’s needs while fulfilling my own.
