“Why us” school essay
学校: Davidson College
One of the most important things to me about my high school is our tightly-knit
community. At Davidson, I found the same type of community.
My headmaster, a Davidson alumnus, encouraged me to look at Davidson because
of its similarities to my high school. When I visited, I found many of the things I love
about York at Davidson. At my high school, I can leave my laptop outside and not worry
about it being stolen. At Davidson, I was pleased to learn that students are trusted to
borrow and return books to the library. I would love the ability to take my final exams
wherever and whenever I want, and that my professors would trust me to take exams
responsibly. I think Davidson’s Honor Code is a central and wonderful part of the college
that creates a true bond of trust between students and faculty.
I think Davidson’s small class sizes are critical in creating an encouraging and
thought-provoking classroom environment. Because Davidson has no graduate students,
the professors are dedicated to giving undergraduates the best education and
opportunities for research. Although I’m not sure what I want to study, I want to do
research. I am impressed with Davidson’s extensive network of study abroad
opportunities. I would love to utilize those resources to broaden my academic horizons to
different countries.
I found the town of Davidson to be quaint and supportive of the college. I heard
that the residents often bake cookies for the students during exam periods, and in addition
to my love of cookies, I love that others around the school care about its students.
As an athlete, I love that Davidson is a NCAA Division I school with the highest
level of play, and would love to cheer on (or maybe play for) the Wildcats!
