“Why us” school essay
学校: Columbia University
Due to the 6:1 student to faculty ratio and the renowned faculty, Columbia serves as an intellectual breeding ground. I can study the effects of the Cold War on Arab culture or even try my hand at Sanskrit. Perhaps after I pass the ritual Core Curriculum swimming test, I can plunge into the SURF program and conduct ground-breaking research on mitochondrial biogenesis. Maybe I’ll even reread The Divine Comedy at Butler Library as Dante watches from above or go for a run at Baker to clear my mind – the options are endless!
I’ve always had a penchant for striking up a conversation with new people and Columbia is bustling with stories to share. Sundaes on Monday will allow a glimpse into the multifaceted viewpoints of such a diverse community. Whether it’s a laidback morning chat on last night’s episode of Homeland over an omelet at Wilma’s Grill or a heated debate at Ferris Booth, the possible discussions – like the food options – are endless.
I can share my love for my history and culture with others through the Armenian Society, debate to my heart’s desire with other politically charged students as part of CIRCA, and help other Columbians become quasi-MasterChefs as a member of the Culinary Society.
With a student body hailing from over 90 different countries, an eclectic community, and vibrant social scene, Columbia puts forth the intellectual gastronomy of the world and I’m dying to get a taste.
