Double the funding!

The joy on the woman’s face was palpable when I told her we’d decided to allot twice the funding her organization had requested. The Hill School Philanthropy Council had been arguing for the past two weeks, and I finally convinced everyone that intellectually disabled adults deserved literacy, too.

Later, I got a phone call: an anonymous donor was inspired by us and had decided to donate enough to build another center for these adults to learn. What an amazing feeling!

At The Hill School, I am one of 12 student leaders of the Philanthropy Council, which analyzes grants, makes site visits and distributes funds to Pottstown, PA, nonprofits we believe will make the greatest impact on the community. Through working with the Council, I’ve visited and learned about over 25 other organizations, and my experience has helped me improve my own NGO, the Give A Hand Organization.
