Kagawa大学是一所国立大学，成立于1949年，前身是日本Kagawa高松师范学校、Kagawa青年师范学校和Takamatsu高等商学院。 早在1975年农学院教授访问亚洲、非洲和南美洲时，该校就与外国机构开展学术交流。在此之前，日本研究人员往往只访问欧洲和美国。 1985年制定了接收国际学生的计划，并成立了国际学生事务委员会。第二年为国际学生出版了英文小册子，1986年开始开办日语和日本事务课程。 校园包括向公众开放并举办展览和讲座的Kagawa大学图书馆、旨在将大学与当地社区和文化联系起来的Kagawa大学博物馆、大学医院、稀有糖研究中心和纳米微结构设备集成研究中心。 Kagawa卫星开发项目于2009年发射了一艘机器人宇宙飞船，名为空间绳索自主机器人卫星。它是由一个母亲和一个女儿卫星，由一根缆绳连接。然而，在启动时，系绳未能部署。五年后，又发射了一颗这样的卫星，部分成功，但无法确定系绳是否已经展开。
